Online conference: The new EU Strategy for Roma and the fight against Anti-Gypsyism in Kosovo.

Online conference: The new EU Strategy for Roma and the fight against Anti-Gypsyism in Kosovo.

Anti-Egyptianism is a specific form of racism, which is expressed, among other things, in violence, hate speech, stigma and forms of discrimination.

Anti-Gypsyism greatly affects all aspects of the lives of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians, it contributes to the denial of key areas of life such as education, standard employment, living as well as health and housing. Considering that Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians have historically faced discrimination and disadvantage in all walks of life. This has passed into normalcy on all sides, contributing to their social stigma and exclusion.

Achieving Roma equality, inclusion and integration therefore requires that all EU institutions, national governments and EU agencies, equality bodies and other human rights institutions come together and take action in partnership. with civil society, international organizations, for the full inclusion of Roma themselves in social, public and political life by strengthening the fight against anti-Gypsyism as a specific form of racism in Europe.
In this case, Kosovo will have to develop a new Strategy in 2021 which should address anti-Gypsyism. Thus, it is important that the Government of Kosovo and civil society addressing the issues of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities are informed about the new EU Framework and that the Government of Kosovo take into account the new Framework during the process of developing this strategy.
Therefore, Voices of Rome, Ashkali and Egyptians, Advancing Together, and the Central Council of the German Sinti and Roma in cooperation with the Office for Good Governance in the Office of the Prime Minister of Kosovo today organized a national conference to discuss on the importance and impact of the new EU Framework and ways to combat Anti-Gypsyism in Kosovo. Part of this meeting was also ZVKM Mr. Besnik Tahiri who stressed that: It is a pleasure to be invited to discuss at the Conference on the new EU Legal Framework with the main focus on Anti-Gypsyism.
In his capacity as First Deputy Prime Minister, he mentioned the importance of addressing the inclusion and integration of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Kosovo. The fight against anti-Gypsyism, which is also given a special focus in the new EU legal framework, is a very important issue that needs to be analyzed and addressed more seriously in our country. Although work has been done in this direction, in practice the situation is not good at all.

Therefore, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo together with the Voices of Rome, Ashkali and Egyptians in Kosovo and the most important actors in this process will be committed to addressing this negative phenomenon by working on a new mechanism and strategy. for the inclusion of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in four priority areas, namely education, employment, housing and health.
